Ceramic coating vs wax
When it comes to automotive paint protection, we have 3 main forms of protection. We start with our waxes, then paint sealants and finally ceramic coatings.
You have probably heard of waxes and paint sealants many times before, and you have most likely washed and waxed your own car before as well. Many people are led to believe that waxing your car is the best form of protection and that a good hand wax 1 to 2 times per year is good enough.
Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Your typical wax will only last you around 2 – 4 weeks before it needs to be re applied. You could upgrade to a paint sealant and get anywhere from 3 – 12 months of protection and hydrophobicity.
So, if wax and paint sealants don’t cut it, what should you do to protect your investment? The next level of paint protection is going to be ceramic coatings. With a professionally installed ceramic coating, like Ceramic Pro, you are going to see 5 years of unmatched protection and gloss with proper maintenance. Often people assume that once they get a ceramic coating then they no longer need to wash the vehicle and that it will stay clean forever. This is false, you still need to maintain your ceramic coating by regularly washing your vehicle and bringing your vehicle by The Final Detail for yearly coating maintenance.
It is true that once your vehicle is ceramic coated, you no longer need to wax your vehicle. That’s right, WAX IS DEAD!
Gtechniq Ceramic Coatings
Gtechniq was founded by quantum physicist Drew Gill in 2001, out of total dissatisfaction with the performance of paint protection products at the time.
Everything from waxes, to new-fangled polymers and PTFE-based miracle treatments, nothing on the market offered any meaningful durability, either in looks, or protection. Worse still, he found that most of the products actually performed poorer than the paints they were supposed to protect.
From this discontent came a simple idea, ‘To engineer the world’s most beautiful, perfectly finished, smartest and most intelligent surfaces. Surfaces that do much more than simply look great when new’
Drew’s background meant that he had a good understanding of how the forces, shapes and structures of a surface works on very small scales.
He also knew what modifications may be possible in order to add some really useful enhancements. Improvements such as dirt repellency, ease of washing, swirl, UV and stain resistance, along with, long-term gloss and color stability
Single Stage Paint Correction
If you own a classic car, chances is are it has single stage paint. Unlike paint and clear coat we see on modern cars, single stage paint combines base coat and clear coat.
When it comes to paint correction, single stage paint can be very tricky to correct as each vehicle’s paint job is different. Without a clear coat, the paint from the single stage paint is transferred onto the polishing pad, clogging the pad and making the correction process tricky.
The Final Detail specializes in single stage paint correction in Chicago, Illinois.
